The B.C. Coroners Service announced Wednesday night they are investigating the case of a 46-year-old Victoria man who died following a Saturday evening accident at the Extreme Air Park facility in East Richmond.
"Due to the privacy of the deceased, per the Coroners Act and privacy legislation, we will not be releasing or confirming identity. No other information is available at this time," said Andy Watson, manager of Strategic Communications for the B.C. Coroners Service.
Richmond RCMP announced in a Wednesday
afternoon press release that they were called to a facility on the 14000 block
of Triangle Road around 8 p.m.
The victim, who was with his two children,
was “allegedly performing a series of acrobatic manoeuvres prior to a fall that
caused serious injury and cardiac arrest,” Richmond RCMP Cpl. Dennis Hwang
said.
The victim succumbed to his injuries and
police are investigating.
Anyone with information about the incident is
asked to call local Mounties at 604-278-1212.
While calls to the facility, at 14380
Triangle Rd., were not answered, Facebook posts have identified the victim as
Jay Greenwood.
Karm Layegh wrote in a Saturday evening
Facebook post that she arrived at the scene shortly after the accident.
“Arrived at Richmond Extreme Air Park…walked
into an emergency situation. Staff had no idea what to do and I called 911,”
she wrote in the post. “Injured person has been attended to, but fate is not
yet determined.”
She cautioned: “Friends, think twice about
visiting a trampoline park. Never again will I go or allow my family.”
Tracey Schick Trouwborst wrote in a Facebook
post that her children were at the facility when the accident occurred.
“We have some traumatized teens from
witnessing this event,” she wrote.
According to Matthew Ball, who also added a
Facebook post: “A man went her with his children, he broke his neck and passed
later from the injuries. He was a loving father and an artist in design and
remodelling homes…He will be sorely missed. If you pray, please do so on behalf
of his children who witnessed the terrible event.”
According to his Facebook page, Greenwood was
owner/operator at Ginger Bros. Burritos and principal at Jay Greenwood
Contracting. He was originally from Vancouver but had been living in Victoria.
WorkSafeBC’sTrish Knight Chernecki said
WorkSafeBC is not investigating because the accident did not involve an
employee of the facility.
Andy Watson, spokesperson for the BC Coroner’s
Service, said this incident hasn’t yet come to the organization’s attention,
but it fits within the criteria of what they would investigate.
